Turkey’s Milestones in Energy and Natural Resources

National Capabilities in Gas Exploration

Minister Bayraktar emphasised Turkey’s vision in energy and natural resources. He recalled the decision to conduct gas exploration using Turkey’s own ships and engineers, stating, “In August 2020, amidst the pandemic, Turkey made the second largest offshore gas discovery in the world and the largest in the Republic’s history. Despite scepticism, we achieved this significant milestone.”

Historic Discovery in Gabar

Bayraktar highlighted the Gabar region, noting its transformation following the clearance of terrorism in September 2021. “A major oil discovery was made in Gabar, now producing 80,000 barrels per day,” he said, adding that over 3,500 young people are currently employed in the area.

Major Investments and the Role of Youth

Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant Investment

The Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant stands as the largest foreign investment in Turkey’s history, with nearly 30 billion dollars invested and thousands employed. Bayraktar stressed its importance for Turkey’s energy security.

Youth at the Forefront of Progress

Minister Bayraktar underlined that youth are integral to the success of projects in the Black Sea, Gabar, and Akkuyu. “We accomplished these projects together with our young engineers. We are entrusting these achievements to you, and you will carry them even further,” he told the participants.

Commitment and Future Prospects

Bayraktar encouraged young people to invest in their personal development. “The most important thing is to strive, work hard, and persevere. Your efforts will never be wasted,” he concluded.
