Minister Bayraktar Visits Filyos for Black Sea Energy Projects

Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar continued his official visit in Zonguldak with a late-night stop in Filyos, where he joined the crew of the Yıldırım deep-sea drilling vessel for sahur at Filyos Port. The Yıldırım, the sixth vessel in Turkey’s energy fleet, is currently preparing for its first assignment in the Black Sea this April.

Upcoming Drilling Operations and Production Goals

Deployment of Yıldırım and Kanuni Vessels

Minister Bayraktar reminded that Yıldırım’s sister ship was recently dispatched from Taşucu Port to Somalia, while the Kanuni vessel will start its new assignment tomorrow following its final preparations.

New Exploration Efforts

He announced that two new drilling operations will commence in the Black Sea during Ramadan and April, with the Fatih and Abdülhamid Han vessels focusing on the discovery of new reserves. “Our aim is to increase our reserves and explore new fields,” Bayraktar stated.

Doubling Production at Sakarya Gas Field

The minister also provided updates on the Osman Gazi Floating Production Platform, which continues its preparations. He emphasized that this year, gas production at the Sakarya Gas Field will be doubled, enabling natural gas supply to 8 million households.

Strategic Importance and International Initiatives

Reducing Energy Dependence

Highlighting the significance of energy security amidst regional conflict, Bayraktar underscored Turkey’s goal to end foreign energy dependence under the National Energy and Mining Policy. He noted increased production in Gabar and continued exploration in new areas, stressing the critical role of Sakarya Gas Field in this strategy.

Overseas Operations in Somalia and Pakistan

Bayraktar also discussed international exploration activities. The Çağrı Bey vessel is en route to Somalia, and preparations are underway to deploy the Oruç Reis for seismic surveys in Pakistan, pending security assessments. “Our mission is to achieve energy independence for our country, working alongside thousands of colleagues,” he concluded.

Minister Bayraktar was accompanied by Zonguldak Governor Osman Hacıbektaşoğlu, AK Party MPs Muammer Avcı and Ahmet Çolakoğlu, and AK Party Provincial Chairman Mustafa Çağlayan during his visit. The delegation took commemorative photos after the announcement.
