Minister Bolat Highlights Social Policy Funding in 2026 Budget
Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat stated that approximately 3.5% of Türkiye’s national budget will be allocated to social policies and support programmes in 2026, amounting to a total expenditure of 917 billion lira. Bolat made these remarks during the fifth “Kardeşliğe Çağrı” iftar event held at Bahçelievler Öğretmenevi, attended by individuals with disabilities, senior citizens, relatives of martyrs, and orphans.
Comprehensive Support for Vulnerable Groups
Bolat emphasised the continued commitment to providing assistance for children with special needs, the elderly, orphans, and families of martyrs and veterans. He noted, “Before our government, social aid accounted for only 0.5% of the national income. This year, nearly 1 trillion lira has been allocated to social assistance.”
Investments in Education and Social Services
The Minister highlighted the expansion of support services, including the increase in rehabilitation centres and special education schools. Currently, there are 1,855 schools for special needs children, staffed by 35,000 teachers. Additionally, the number of state-supported nursing homes has reached 175, and there are 45 day care and rehabilitation centres for the elderly.

He added that 120,000 elderly citizens receive at-home care and health services, and 14,600 children benefit from protection and care through residential institutions.
Ongoing Commitment to Social Welfare
Bolat underlined the government’s efforts to prioritise the well-being of citizens, noting that last year’s social support expenditure was 630 billion lira. For 2024, key allocations include:

He also highlighted Türkiye’s ability to manage regional crises without harm to its citizens, and reaffirmed the nation’s progress in production, growth, defence, energy, infrastructure, culture, and sports.
