EU Ambassadors and Turkish Trade Minister Gather in Ankara
Under the initiative of Denmark’s Embassy, which currently holds the EU Presidency, a working breakfast was held in Ankara with the participation of Thomas Hans Ossowski, Head of the EU Delegation to Türkiye, and ambassadors from the 27 EU member states. Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat also attended the meeting.
Condolences for Wildfire Victims
Opening the event, Minister Bolat expressed condolences for those who lost their lives in the recent forest fires in Eskişehir, offering prayers for the deceased and well wishes for those affected.
Positive Developments in Türkiye-EU Economic Relations
The discussions focused on the current state and future trajectory of Türkiye-EU economic and trade relations. Minister Bolat briefed attendees on the second meeting of the Türkiye-EU High-Level Trade Dialogue held on July 1, 2025 in Ankara with EU Commissioner for Trade Maroš Šefčovič, highlighting the strategic importance of this initiative.
Roadmap for Customs Union Modernization
Minister Bolat emphasized that under the positive agenda, steps have been taken to align the Customs Union with the green and digital transformation processes. He also outlined a roadmap for its modernization and expansion to further enhance economic integration with the EU.
Technical Progress in Key Cooperation Areas
Bolat shared updates on concrete advancements and ongoing technical discussions between Türkiye and the EU in critical fields including e-commerce, public procurement, customs, and sustainability.
Visa Facilitation Regime Welcomed, Visa Liberalization Still the Goal
The meeting also addressed the newly launched visa cascade regime initiated by the European Commission for Turkish citizens. Minister Bolat described the measure as a welcome development, while reiterating that Türkiye’s ultimate goal remains full visa liberalization. He underlined that a more predictable and simplified visa process would positively affect economic ties.
Türkiye as a Strategic Partner for Europe
Bolat stated that Türkiye plays a vital role in Europe’s strategic ambitions, particularly in defense and energy autonomy. He emphasized that Türkiye’s robust industrial and trade capacity is essential for overcoming supply chain disruptions across the continent.

Minister Bolat also extended his congratulations to Ambassador Thomas Hans Ossowski on his new role as Head of the EU Delegation to Türkiye, thanking him for his contributions to strengthening bilateral relations and wishing him success.
