Türkiye Expands Energy Cooperation with Oman Through New Agreements

Strategic collaboration signed to develop joint projects in oil, gas, renewables, and hydrogen technologies

Türkiye continues its proactive energy diplomacy by forging a new partnership with Oman. A Memorandum of Understanding on Energy Cooperation was signed, marking a significant step towards collaboration in oil and gas exploration, transportation, and processing.

Ministerial Meeting Strengthens Ties

During his official visit to Oman, Türkiye’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, held discussions with Omani Minister of Energy and Minerals, Salim Nasser Al Aufi. The meeting culminated in the signing of the comprehensive memorandum.

Bayraktar shared on social media, “Our goal is to engage in joint activities across the entire value chain — from exploration to processing of oil and natural gas. The agreement also includes technical knowledge exchange and the implementation of joint projects in areas such as electricity, renewable energy, energy efficiency, and hydrogen technologies.”

Exploring Bilateral and Global Investment Opportunities

Minister Bayraktar also met with the Chairman of the Investment Authority of Oman, Abdulsalam bin Mohammed Al Murshidi. “We evaluated potential investment opportunities in oil, gas, renewables, and electric infrastructure, both bilaterally and in third countries,” Bayraktar posted.

TPAO Takes Strategic Step with Oman

In a major development, Türkiye Petrolleri Anonim Ortaklığı (TPAO) signed a tripartite agreement with Oman’s Ministry of Energy and Minerals (MEM) and OQ Exploration and Production New Ventures L.L.C. (OQEP). The agreement grants a three-month exclusive evaluation period for selected sites.

A separate cooperation agreement between TPAO and OQEP was also signed to explore further joint energy initiatives.

Institutional Involvement

This initiative aligns with Türkiye’s broader energy strategies, coordinated through the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources and supported by public energy institutions such as TPAO, in collaboration with regional partners like Oman.
