Natural Gas Infrastructure Sees Major Growth

The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources continues to expand Turkey’s natural gas network, following President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan‘s 2002 initiative to provide natural gas to every household. Since then, both the length of the network and the number of locations served have risen significantly.

Network Milestones and Distribution

Network Length and Coverage

By the end of 2025, the total length of Turkey’s natural gas network reached 255,000 kilometres, comprising 20,000 kilometres of distribution and 235,000 kilometres of transmission pipelines. This infrastructure now supplies natural gas to all 81 provinces, 982 settlements, and 230 organised industrial zones (OSBs) across the country.

Subscriber Growth

Natural gas household subscriptions have seen remarkable growth, rising from 1.3 million in 2002 to 22.8 million by the end of 2025. In 2025 alone, 47 new settlements gained access, resulting in approximately 933,000 new residential subscribers nationwide.

Future Targets

The Ministry aims to extend natural gas access to over 1,000 settlements within the coming year, further increasing the availability of natural gas to reach 85% of Turkey’s population.
