Türkiye Sets New Record in Air Navigation Services
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu has announced that Türkiye has broken a historic record in air navigation services, according to data from the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL). Uraloğlu stated, “In January 2026, Türkiye reached 1,671,405 service units, marking the highest number ever recorded within the EUROCONTROL system.”
Türkiye Strengthens Leadership Among 42 Countries
The Minister highlighted that Türkiye has solidified its leading position among the 42 member countries of EUROCONTROL. Over the past three months, Türkiye has produced the highest number of air navigation service units in Europe, surpassing major countries such as France. Uraloğlu also noted that the latest report from the EUROCONTROL Statistics and Forecasting Unit projects that Türkiye will maintain this leadership for years to come, thanks to its strong growth in air traffic and infrastructure capacity.
Quality of Service Recognized Internationally
Uraloğlu emphasized that the number of service units—calculated based on an aircraft’s weight and distance flown—is a key indicator of airspace capacity. As of January 2026, exceeding 1.6 million service units clearly demonstrates Türkiye’s crucial role in the global aviation network. He also pointed to significant investments in the nearly one million square kilometer Turkish airspace, stating, “With cutting-edge technology and a focus on flight safety, we have maximized system capacity. Our innovative air traffic management strategies have elevated Türkiye beyond being a regional transit hub, establishing it as one of Europe’s indisputable leaders in aviation.”
The Minister concluded by highlighting that this achievement further validates the international quality of services provided by the General Directorate of State Airports Authority within Turkish airspace.
