Minister Bayraktar’s Visit to Kayseri

Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar visited Kayseri, participating in the Central Anatolia Region Strategy Meeting organised by the AK Party Organisation Directorate. During his address, he shared updates on Turkey’s ongoing efforts to achieve energy independence and outlined the nation’s strategic goals in the sector.

Progress in Domestic and International Energy Projects

Strengthening Domestic Production

Emphasising the importance of delivering uninterrupted, high-quality, and affordable energy to citizens, Bayraktar reiterated Turkey’s commitment to securing energy independence. He stated, “The day Turkey secures energy independence, our economy will become significantly stronger and more autonomous.”

He also noted that since 2016, Turkey has been conducting its own natural gas and oil exploration with its fleet and engineers. Today, Turkey possesses the world’s fourth largest deep-sea fleet, a testament to these national efforts.

Karadeniz and New Exploration Efforts

Bayraktar reported that natural gas production from the Black Sea (Karadeniz) currently meets the needs of 4 million households, and output is expected to double this year. “We aim for new discoveries, with drilling activities starting in new areas of the Black Sea. By pursuing exploration in various regions, we will continue to increase Turkey’s domestic and international production,” he said.

Enhanced International Engagement

He discussed how leading petroleum companies often operate abroad, and questioned why Türkiye Petrolleri should not follow suit in regions like Libya, Syria, Central Asia, and the Middle East. “In the coming period, Turkey will be much more active internationally,” Bayraktar added.

Strategic Advances in Africa and Renewable Energy

Somalia Drilling Operations

Bayraktar recalled his recent visit to Somalia to welcome the Çağrı Bey Drilling Ship, which will begin offshore drilling. “We hope these activities will yield positive outcomes for Somalia, the region, and Turkey. May we receive good news that benefits both the Somali people and our nation,” he said.

Broader African Engagement

Turkey’s growing role in Africa was also highlighted, with Bayraktar referencing the government’s vision for a fairer world. “We are putting into practice in Somalia the principle that ‘the world is bigger than five’ and the idea that ‘a more just world is possible’,” he noted.

Renewable Energy Milestones

Bayraktar pointed out Turkey’s significant renewable potential, stating, “By 2026, solar power will surpass all other sources in installed capacity. While it may not lead in electricity generation, it will be Turkey’s number one source by installed power. Our country has enormous renewable energy potential.”

Additional Engagements in Kayseri

Minister Bayraktar also visited the Kayseri Governorship, AK Party Provincial Directorate, and Metropolitan Municipality as part of his programme.
