1915 Çanakkale Bridge and Malkara-Çanakkale Motorway Turn Four

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu has announced that the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge and the Malkara-Çanakkale Motorway have delivered a combined savings of 135 billion Turkish lira over the past four years.

World’s Longest Suspension Bridge Span

The bridge, with a main span of 2,023 metres—a reference to the centenary of the Turkish Republic—stands as the world’s longest mid-span suspension bridge. Its total length reaches 3,563 metres, while, including approach viaducts of 365 and 680 metres, the crossing extends to 4,608 metres. The bridge’s 318-metre-high steel towers were constructed in honour of the Çanakkale Victory and topped with 16-metre artillery shell figures in memory of Seyit Onbaşı, bringing the total height to 334 metres.

Seamless Travel Across the Dardanelles

The 1915 Çanakkale Bridge is a central link in the Marmara Motorway Ring, specifically on the Kınalı-Tekirdağ-Çanakkale-Savaştepe Motorway, enabling uninterrupted road transport across the Dardanelles Strait. The crossing time has been reduced to only 6 minutes, ensuring rapid and reliable travel.

Advanced Technologies and Economic Impact

Both the bridge and motorway are equipped with smart transportation systems, including a 210,700-metre fibre optic communication infrastructure, incident detection cameras, meteorological stations, and emergency call features. These advancements reinforce the project’s status as one of Turkey’s most significant infrastructure achievements.

Over four years, the project has saved 129 billion lira in time and 6 billion lira in fuel, for a total of 135 billion lira. In addition, the initiative has contributed to a reduction of 313,000 tonnes of carbon emissions, supporting environmental sustainability.
