UAV Pilot Licence Applications Increase Dramatically
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu has reported a marked rise in the number of individuals applying to become Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) pilots in Türkiye. According to official figures, 54,075 people have applied for UAV pilot licences since the start of 2026, representing a 236% increase compared to the first three months of the previous year.
Developments in UAV Registration and Sectoral Use
Enhanced UAV Registration System
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (SHGM) has implemented a dedicated registration system for UAVs under the “UAV Systems Directive”. Minister Uraloğlu stated that this system has made the processes for obtaining permits, conducting flights, and registering UAVs significantly easier.
UAVs Serving Multiple Sectors
Minister Uraloğlu noted a notable expansion in the use of UAVs across various industries, including agricultural spraying, photography, cinematography, mapping, traffic management, security, logistics, and healthcare. Since the beginning of the year, 1,091 new UAVs have been officially registered.
Current Statistics on Licensed UAV Pilots and Registered Drones
As of 17 March 2026, the number of UAVs registered and in use in Türkiye has reached 77,616. Furthermore, the number of individuals holding UAV pilot licences now stands at 1,655,918.
