President Erdoğan’s diplomacy traffic at NATO Summit

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a series of bilateral meetings with various world leaders on the sidelines of the NATO Heads of State and Government Summit in The Hague, Netherlands.

President Erdoğan first met with U.S. President Donald Trump.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who is in The Hague to attend the NATO Heads of State and Government Summit, met with President Donald J. Trump of the United States of America.

The meeting addressed bilateral relations between Türkiye and the U.S., as well as regional and global issues.

Stating that both countries have great potential in various fields, especially in energy and investment, President Erdoğan noted that particularly enhancing cooperation in the defense industry would facilitate the achievement of the 100 billion-dollar total trade volume target.

Welcoming the ceasefire reached between Israel and Iran through the efforts of U.S. President Trump, President Erdoğan expressed his hope for it to be lasting and also emphasized the importance of close dialogue in ending the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza as well as in finding a peaceful solution to the war between Russia and Ukraine.

As NATO’s leading Allies, the two leaders stressed the importance of strengthening the Alliance’s deterrent power.

President Erdoğan met with PM Starmer of the United Kingdom

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met with Prime Minister Keir Starmer of the United Kingdom on the sidelines of the NATO Summit in The Hague.

During the meeting, bilateral relations between Türkiye and the United Kingdom, as well as regional and global issues, were discussed.

President Erdoğan stated that Türkiye will continue to enhance relations with the aim of increasing the trade volume between the two countries to 30 billion dollars, and that efforts are ongoing to strengthen cooperation in all areas, particularly in the defense industry.

Emphasizing that Türkiye will persist in its efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace between Ukraine and Russia, President Erdoğan expressed hope that Iran and Israel will adhere to the ceasefire, stressing that the escalation must not be allowed to overshadow the catastrophic humanitarian crisis in Gaza. President Erdoğan also underlined that the violations of international law by the Netanyahu government in Palestine are unacceptable, and that Türkiye’s priority is the establishment of a lasting ceasefire in Gaza and the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid.

Reaffirming Türkiye’s commitment to supporting the stabilization of Syria while preserving its territorial integrity and political unity, President Erdoğan warned that Israel’s attacks on Syria could also endanger regional security, and added that improvements in social and economic welfare would facilitate the large-scale return of refugees to Syria.

President Erdoğan was accompanied during the meeting by Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan, Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler, Head of the National Intelligence Organization İbrahim Kalın, Presidency’s Head of Communications Fahrettin Altun, Chief Advisor to the President on Foreign Policy and Security Akif Çağatay Kılıç, and AK Party Deputy Chairman Halit Yerebakan.

President Erdoğan met with Chancellor Merz of Germany 

During the meeting, bilateral relations between Türkiye and Germany, as well as regional and global issues, were discussed.

Stating that Türkiye maintains close cooperation with Germany, President Erdoğan expressed his belief that relations will continue to improve in the new period and emphasized that as two friendly and allied countries, Türkiye and Germany have great potential for cooperation in trade, defense, investment, and energy.

President Erdoğan also underscored Türkiye’s determination to advance its relations with the European Union and noted that a similar approach is expected from the EU.

Further stating that Türkiye continues its efforts to ensure that the war between Ukraine and Russia ends with a just peace and expressing hope for the calm achieved between Israel and Iran to be lasting, President Erdoğan noted that the deepening humanitarian crisis in Gaza must be addressed and that improving social and economic conditions is essential to facilitate the return of refugees in Syria.

President Erdoğan met with President Macron of France

During the meeting, bilateral relations between Türkiye and France, as well as regional and global issues, were discussed.

In the meeting, President Erdoğan stated that Türkiye and France will continue to work towards further advancing their bilateral relations.

Expressing satisfaction with the ceasefire reached between Israel and Iran, emphasizing the need for the current situation to swiftly evolve into lasting calm, President Erdoğan also highlighted the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza and stressed the importance of achieving a permanent ceasefire there as soon as possible.

President Erdoğan noted that including non-EU allies in Europe’s new security and defense architecture would be beneficial and emphasized the importance of approaching Türkiye-European Union relations from a long-term and strategic perspective.

President Erdoğan also stated that Syria has been acting cautiously to remain outside the scope of regional conflicts and underlined the importance of Israel recognizing that ensuring its own security depends on the stability of its neighbors.

President Erdoğan met with Prime Minister Schoof of the Netherlands

During the meeting, bilateral relations between Türkiye and the Netherlands, as well as regional and global issues, were discussed.

President Erdoğan stated that Türkiye is determined to further enhance its already strong relations with the Netherlands by tapping into the full potential of bilateral cooperation.

President Erdoğan also congratulated Prime Minister Schoof for successfully hosting and organizing the NATO Summit.

During the meeting, bilateral relations between Türkiye and Romania, as well as regional and global issues, were discussed.

President Erdoğan stated that Türkiye and Romania would continue to make efforts to advance their relations, particularly in the fields of trade and the defense industry.

Emphasizing that cooperation between the two countries in the fight against terrorism is important, President Erdoğan noted that they can continue working together to ensure the security of the Black Sea.
